| 53 | (Research):There is a real problem with interpreting the marriage information for Marie Carmelite Prevost (#207) and Louis Simien (#7056). According to the SWL in Father Hebert's Book Volume 33 Page 288 the groom in the wedding on December 11, 1827 was Louis Simien and his parents were Antoine Simien & Marie Magdalene, which would be our Antoine de Simiane (born December 8, 1753) and Marie Magdalene Lemelle (also known as Esprite). But the 1860 Census Shows at the head of the household a Louis Simien age 48 which would make him as born in about 1811/1812 so that would be Louis Simien, the son of Antoine Simien (#6568) (born 1786) which in turn was the stepson of Antoine de Simiane. We'll try to get the original copy of the marriage entry in the volume 2, page 74 of Opelousas St. Landry Church. | Simien, Louis (I7056)

| 54 | (Research):Corrections: In previous publications (Editions 15 and earlier) Antoine Lede (#8855), husband of Geneve Celstine Simien was also shown as son of Marie Louise Simien (#4802), wife of Antoine Velentie Lede (#4811), which could not have been and should not have been done. One indication is that Marie Louise Simien and Antoine Velentine Lede married on 12 Feb 1863 and Antoine Lede was born about 1840. If you see any errors please don't hesitate to report them to us at: Juergen and Etha Amling 1039 Crouchet St Opelousas, LA 70570 | Simien, Marie Louise (I4802)

| 56 | (Research):There are some different opinions about the name of Gabriel Sam. A: The death certificat shows the name Gabriel Sam with a birthdate as about 1927 (86 years old at his death in 1913). The Census of 1870 and 1880 shows him as Gabriel Sam, both with the more or less same children. Later censuses also shows him as Gabriel Sam. We can't find no birth certificate for him. B: Some pointed us to two entries in Father Heberts Books Volume 33 of Southwest Louisiana Records. 1) Page 110: "ALEXANDER, Gabriel m. 1866 Onesime ROMARD (GC Ch.: v,35, p,2)" 2) Page 112: "ALEXANDRE, Gabriel freed from Mrs. Ned ROW m. 13 Jan 1866 Onezia ROMARD, freed from Marcellite Guilbeau This is an example of slaves taking a different surname from their former masters. (GC Ch.: v.4, p.43)" If this would be true, then Gabriel's last name should have been orginial ROW and not SAM, and his new name would have been Alexandre. And why would he had changed then his name from ALEXANDRE (in 1866) to SAM in 1870 (showing in the census)? | Sam, Gabriel (I1472)

| 65 | (Research):According to the list of John Arceneaux, Alphonse Richard was suppose to be born in 1872 but the census from 1880 puts him as 3 years old which would make the birth year about 1877, which would make it more likely, because his mother was born about 1857 (23 years old in the 1880 census) which would make her 20 years old when Alphonse was born, according to the census data, which seems right and not 15 years old if the list from John Arceneaux would be correct. | Richard, Alphonse (I5900)

| 70 | (Research):Anthony Guillory recorded Odom Guillory's birthday as 19 Dec 1879. But I don't believe that could be correct, since his mother's birthday is recorded as 1820, which would have made her 59 years old at the son's day of birth. It seems like Anthony got the wedding day of the brother Edmond Guillory mixed up with Odom's birt879hday. Maybe Odom's and Edmond's wedding day were both on 19 December. Here the entry Anthony made: 16. Emmanuel Guillory, Sr. #29 b. 25 DEC 1819, m.
