Verlia Mae Alexander, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of God, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, surrounded by love, prayer, and the legacy of a life well lived.

Born on August 25, 1932, in Lawtell, Louisiana, Verlia lived 93 years rooted in faith, family, and joy. A woman of deep belief and spirited strength, she trusted God in all seasons—faithful, warm, and pleasantly spicy in a way that brought laughter, honesty, and life to every room she entered. Her faith was not only spoken; it was lived daily, reflected in how she loved, served, and gathered her family.

Verlia was the proud and devoted mother of eight children, all of whom survive her and carry forward her legacy. She poured her heart into her family and found her greatest joy in seeing them together laughing, celebrating, and enjoying life. She loved a good time, but even more than that, she loved watching others have a good time. Her smile, presence, and laughter anchored family gatherings and made every moment feel fuller.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM at Williams Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Serenity Memorial Park. Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, S.V.D. will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Clement Alexander, Sr. (Francheska), Calvin Alexander, Martin Alexander (Diane), Janice Lemon (Floyd), Larry Alexander (Carla), Charles Alexander (Carolyn), Bruce Alexander, and Ricky Alexander (Jamie); her sisters-in-law Pearlie Kennerson, Verlee Andrus (Ervin), Gennie Backus (James), and Marjorie Pickney; and through her children, her love multiplied into 17 grandchildren and over 20 great-grandchildren, each one a living testament to the family she so deeply cherished.

Verlia was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Edna Zachary Malveaux; her husband, Clemon Alexander; her brothers Jacob, Joseph, and Jimmy Malveaux; her sisters Celina Guillory, Ethel Wilkins, Elsie Mallett, Josephine Ferrell, Beatrice Peterson, Victoria Chenier, Ella Nacoste, and Helen Carriere; her daughters-in-law Theresa Alexander and Deanna Alexander; and her great-grandchildren Issabella Alexander and Chad Williams (“Lil Chad”).

Verlia’s life was a testimony to God’s faithfulness. She leaves behind a family strengthened by her prayers, warmed by her love, and guided by the example she set. While her presence will be deeply missed, we rejoice knowing she now rests in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones and welcomed into the joy of the Lord.
