English: The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sofie, Duchess of Hohenberg by the Bosnian Serb student Gavrilo Princip was one of the key events leading to World War I. Austria held Serbia responsible and declared war on Serbia. Russia came to Serbia's defence and by the begin of August 1914 England, France and Germany got involved. The Ottoman Empire joined the war in November 1914. - The war ended with the armistice signed November 11, 1918 at Le Francport near Compiègne in France
